Verbier International School

Countries: Switzerland
Categories: Secondary Education

Founded in 2011, Verbier International School is a small bilingual boarding institution in the Swiss Alps offering English and French instruction from preschool through secondary. Located in the Four Valleys ski area, the campus provides direct access to nearly one hundred lifts and over four hundred kilometers of slopes.

The school operates through three academic divisions serving students aged two to eighteen. Small classes of three to fifteen students enable personalized attention. Forest School programs build resilience and environmental awareness through outdoor shelter-building, fire-lighting, and tool use.

Accommodation in recently constructed chalets offers students aged eleven to eighteen en-suite rooms in separate male and female wings. Boarding options include full-year, winter term only, weekly, and flexible arrangements. Common areas feature dining hall, kitchen, games, and quiet study spaces. Staff reside nearby providing 24-hour supervision.

Daily routines begin with breakfast 7:00-8:00. After lessons, students choose between group activities and independent study. Dinner is served 18:30-19:30. Younger students follow earlier bedtimes.

Winter sports form a core program component. All students ski at least twice weekly with professional ESSV instructors. Programs include Fun and Improvement for beginners, Freeride Introduction from grade five, Race technique from grade four, and Ski Academy with three training levels offering three to six days weekly, pre-season conditioning, and weekends in Saas-Fee and Zermatt.

Summer activities feature hiking, mountain biking, and excursions. Weekend trips explore Switzerland, Italy, and France including cities, music festivals, and nature reserves. Creative arts include drama, music, painting, and crafts.

Facilities span two chalets built in 2011. Mascotte serves younger students with playground, sports areas, science laboratory, music and dance rooms, and garden. Orny houses academics and boarding with classrooms featuring interactive technology, dining hall, and common areas.

Accreditations include Cambridge International Examinations and British Schools Overseas. Students may earn IGCSE qualifications and CAIE ICE diploma.

Admission requires application, academic records, teacher recommendations, and English or French proficiency. Priority for winter term places goes to returning families.
